Staying IndoorsWhen it’s a Beautiful Day Outside

Dealing with isolation when it's beautiful outside

The sun is shining, the weather is perfect, and the beaches are looking more enticing than ever. However, you’re forced to stay home. Are you feeling a bit miffed as well? It’s completely understandable. We are currently in an unprecedented time. Therefore, trying to cope with everything going on while being stuck inside your home can be very difficult. If you’ve been working from home, homeschooling your kids, or you’re just stuck inside without much to do, it can be hard to convince yourself not to go out. This may end up making the current situation all the more challenging. That’s why here we’re going to discuss dealing with isolation, especially when it’s a beautiful day outside.

How are you Dealing with Isolation?

How are you feeling right now? Have you been talking to anyone about it? Often times, we get stuck in a routine and forget to check in with ourselves. This can especially occur when there is an abrupt change in your life, such as suddenly working from home and/or becoming a teacher as well. While this can be especially hard for extroverted people who enjoy socialising often, it can still be challenging for introverted people who struggle to reach out. That’s why when the weather is as beautiful as it has been lately, it can be difficult to stay inside. However, it’s important now more than ever.

In order for us to stay safe, healthy, and prevent the spread of disease, it’s imperative we stay home and don’t go outside. Even though you may think it’s safe because not many other people are out right now, that is simply not a guarantee. Plus, the exact way it’s spread and how long it lives on various surfaces hasn’t been determined yet. For the health of you and your loved ones, staying home is always going to be the best option right now.

It May Be Beautiful Outside But…

While the weather is incredible and the beaches and bushlands are calling, there will always be time for that when this is all over. Instead, focus on activities you can do indoors. When you do have free time, try watching a movie, learning a new hobby, or revisiting an old one. If you have children that are getting antsy, try to explain to them that we must stay inside right now to make sure we stay healthy. Once we’re sure everyone will be safe and healthy, we can go outside and start to go back to school again. Be honest with them but keep things simple and assure them that this is only temporary. Encourage creative activities that allow both you and them to express how you’re feeling. For example, painting, colouring, drawing, and writing are all great choices.

If you have already tried a lot of these ideas and you’re still struggling, that’s okay. We’re currently dealing with a very difficult time. If you need to vent to someone, talk about how you’re feeling, or need assistance coping with all of this, speaking with a counsellor is a great idea. Both phone and Skype counselling are available if you need them. We’re here to help when you need us.
